About the product

Countdown Clock is a free web tool for creating custom countdown timers: product launches, weddings, holidays, or anything else worth counting down to. No account, no signup. Pick a date, style the timer, and share the link. It's our own product, which makes it a different kind of case study: we don't just maintain the code, we operate the whole thing.

What we built

  • A live-editing timer builder on Next.js and React. Every change to the title, date, colors, fonts, or displayed time units updates the preview instantly, and the countdown stays accurate across time zones.
  • A shareable page for every timer. Creating a timer produces a permanent link anyone can open on any device. The timer's entire design travels inside the link itself, so there are no accounts and no database, and the pages are cached aggressively to load fast and cost almost nothing to serve.
  • A personalized social preview for every timer. Share a timer link in Slack, iMessage, or social media and it unfurls into a card generated on the fly with that timer's own title, target date, and colors. The rendered images are cached on the CDN, so even viral timers stay nearly free to serve.
  • An SEO landing page strategy. More than a dozen dedicated pages target the countdowns people actually search for (Christmas, New Year's, Black Friday, Thanksgiving, Halloween, weddings, birthdays, vacations, and more), each funneling visitors into the builder.
  • A suite of companion time tools: stopwatch, Pomodoro timer, time zone converter, age calculator, and five date calculators, rounding the site out into a broader time-utilities platform.
  • Product analytics wired into every decision. PostHog tracks the funnels from landing pages through timer creation, so changes to CTAs, layouts, and flows are measured rather than guessed.

Running it like a product

This is the part a screenshot can't show. The site gets continuous iteration based on what the analytics say: a sticky mobile call to action, a deliberate create step before sharing, smoother reveal transitions, and serverless cost tuning so the free tool stays cheap to run. Small changes, shipped constantly, each one measured.

The result

A fast, friction-free tool used for marketing campaigns, event pages, and personal milestones alike. Try it at countdownclock.io.
